Play Area

The much anticipated, patiently waited for play area is now OPEN

We’d like to say thank you to Playscheme for being so great to work with before and during the build. They guarantee the equipment for 15 years and provide a maintenance handbook for the Parish Council to follow and action. The Parish Council will continue to inspect, manage and maintain the new equipment on an ongoing basis.

A massive thanks to our funders and supporters – FCC Communities Foundation who were the main grant providers, The Co-op Community FundQueen Ethelburga’s CollegeNorth Yorkshire County Council, GO Parish Council and Village Hall plus our wonderful village communities for their fundraising and support, principally GO and the Dunsforths and the organisers of the Beer Festival, the Garden Festival and the Garden Golf Day. Also, a big thank you to Caroline Smale and Carol Andrews who painted the benches so beautifully and to Kathy Richardson for designing the fabulous new sign. A brilliant community effort.

In the current climate, we realise there are many worthy causes that this amount of money could go towards. However, the grants are only awarded to this type of project; to improve community services and facilities. Now, more than ever, we need to go play.

We have some extras still to do – Playscheme need to add the markings on the sports court, we are awaiting a small children’s picnic bench and (subject to remaining monies) we will be doing further work on the picnic area and also clearing the overgrown area below the court.

As has always been the case, the sports court cannot be used during a cricket match. Ouseburn CC are responsible for moving the screen off the court after each match and putting the football goals back in place (they are moveable).

That’s all folks! Go play, enjoy and please be mindful of your fellow players big and small.
